RYA Day Skipper Theory Classroom vs Online

As many people are already aware the RYA Day Skipper Theory course is a vital stepping stone course on the way to becoming and Day Skipper and beyond. In this modern world it is now available as an online course which offers benefits over the classroom version regarding accessibility. You can work in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.
However we feel that this single advantage is heavily outweighed by the disadvantages as listed below.

1. The online course exam certificate is marked "not-invigilated" meaning the exam was conducted at the students home, without supervision. As a charter company trying to decide if a client has suitable knowledge to charter a yacht it means this qualification is worthless. We would have no way of knowing if the student stuck to time limits, closed book policy or even did the exams themselves.
2. The MCA & even the RYA themselves do not accept none-invigilated exam certificates for commercial licenses they issue that require a supporting theory certificate.
3. We would have expected an online course to offer a large financial saving over the cost of a highly qualified RYA instructors time, but often they are a similar price.
4. We find as a charter company that online students can reproduce components of the course, but don`t fully understand why and when to use them.
